Who knew that a pharmacist by trade could create BBQ his own sauces and rubs so delicious for family and friends that it would inspire a dream for a smokehouse restaurant and catering business in Crystal City, Missouri?
Learning formulas wasn’t all I was up to during my internship for pharmacy school back in the early 2000’s. During that time, I also worked for a local BBQ joint to help pay my way through school. While there, I grew to love the restaurant business and became a student, learning all I could from those who worked there. Soon I found myself experimenting with my own flavors in my kitchen when I wasn’t working or focusing on finishing my degree. As it happens, life can get in the way and gave me a good run for my money. So, after watching my wife’s family in a variety of roles in the restaurant industry, I approached her and pitched my idea of starting a smokehouse and catering business of our own. I just knew that together with my own formulas for BBQ sauces and rubs, my mother-in-laws accomplished cooking and baking skills as a home cook, I wanted to take a chance and bring a family-friendly, laid back BBQ experience to my family, friends and community. A place where we could all enjoy a delicious, home-cooked meal while hanging out, watching the game, listening to music and enjoying each other’s company.
Our team takes pride in doing Memphis-style BBQ the right way and serving it up with delicious and creative menu offerings right here at Kettlehut Smokehouse. And, let me tell you, if you haven’t tried our array of homemade pies…you are missing out. Bobbi, my mother-in-law, makes the most amazing pies – our customers rave about the Coconut Cream – and bread pudding that is out of this world. Every day, we’re working hard to continue to make our Missouri-based smokehouse restaurant and catering business a place that you’ll want to come back to time and time again.
